About GO-RC:

GO-RC is a newly formed club that is dedicated to reviving Radio Controlled car racing in Georgia. Members of GO-RC are Radio Controlled (R/C) car hobbyist from all walks of life and areas of Georgia. We enthusiastically pursue the hobby/sport, not only for the thrill but also the camaraderie and relief from the stresses of life.

Starting in 2001 and through 2007 there were two privately owned facilities with tracks in the state that catered to our racing needs, therefore there was no need for a club. Unfortunately both these facilities have closed down, the last called SugarBowl Speedway in Sugarhill, GA. Before 2001 a R/C car club named Dixie Racing Club, which was founded in 1978, was the venue for on-road racing. The Dixie Racers raced in several locations around the Metro Atlanta area including North Lake Mall and from 1990 to 2000 at the Park and Ride lot at I-85 and Indian Trail Rd in Norcross. Today many of the former Dixie Racers are now members of GO-RC.

When racing as the Dixie Racing Club the racecourse itself was a temporary set-up, built and dismantled all in the same day. This was difficult to say the least and hardship for some, but a hardship endured for love of the hobby/sport.

Primary Purpose:

Our present goal is to facilitate growth of organized Radio Controlled (R/C) on-road racing in the greater Atlanta area as well as the southeast U.S. This proposal hopes to provide a quality accessible racing facility for the local RC hobbyist and R/C racing visitors.

What is Needed:

Today we are seeking assistance in procuring a site on which to build a permanent racecourse. Gwinnett County has many fine parks and recreation areas, many of which are dedicated sports complexes. The county may also have other areas of land that may be suitable for our needs, this may include:
1) An asphalted area approximately 250’ x 250’.
2) An area of accessible land, approximately one to two acres, on which to build.

There are presently dozens of R/C clubs across the USA that receive assistance from state and local government and have racecourse facilities on public land. Here in Georgia there are several, one in particular is SCORE (Savannah Chatham Off-Road Racing Enthusiast) and was started in 1986. The raceway is located in Savannah Georgia's Lake Mayer Park

Who Races R/C Cars:

Practically anyone can participate in this hobby! We’ve had members ranging from age six to eighty, driver classes from novice to expert and car classes from entry level to the sophisticated! Classes are not separated by age or gender, but by ability. We have members with disabilities who cannot participate in other sports activities race on an equal level of competition. We are very proud of the fact that whole families can and do join in on the fun!

For the younger members as well as older ones, R/C racing teaches valuable lessons; mechanical skills, hand and eye coordination and associating with others, to name a few.

Liability:

We fully understand the need to protect the property owners as well as ourselves. We race under the rules and regulations of ROAR (Remotely Operated Auto Racers), every member or visiting racer is required to be a member. ROAR is the National non-profit corporation organized to promote the sport of radio controlled model car racing. ROAR has 200 clubs in the US and Canada. These clubs pay only $35 per year to be sanctioned, and to be covered by the member accident and liability insurance. Member’s coverage includes $1,000,000 Liability Insurance protection and $10,000 Accident Medical Insurance. GO-RC is also a Club Affiliate of ROAR and has an additional $1,000,000 Liability Insurance coverage for races ($2,000,000 aggregate). Documentation can be provided

Final Goal:

Our final goal is to obtain a site to build a permanent, state of the art racing facility that would attract R/C racers from all over the United States as well as Georgia.
